Former New York Jets lineman, Marty Lyons, spoke on the topic of leadership to the NVD and NVOT football teams on January 25th. Mr. Lyons was an All American football player at the University of Alabama under the legendary Paul "Bear" Bryant, member of a national championship team, and was recognized as an All American in 1978. He was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 2011.
Mr. Lyons played 11 seasons in the National Football League for the New York Jets. He finished his career with 43 sacks over 11 seasons and was voted NFL "Man of the Year" in 1984. In 1990, the New York Jets introduced the "Marty Lyons Award" given annually to the player who gives the most back to his community as selected by the Jets staff. Mr. Lyons was the first recipient. In 2013, Marty Lyons was inducted into the New York Jets Ring of Honor and is currently a color commentator on the Jets' radio broadcasts.
