Mr. James Santana, Principal of Northern Valley Regional High School at Demarest is proud to announce that in April, 38 of Señor Gray’s Spanish students took the National Spanish Exam ( whose mission is to recognize student achievement and to promote language proficiency in the study of Spanish.  Competing with over 33,000 students across the country, NVD students fared quite well with 30 out of 38 students receiving national awards and 3 students placing in the top 10 in the state.   

Zane Groh, Antonia Sames, Ji Wook (Joseph) Shin, Serena McKeon, Rhea Tejwani and Breanna Nolan all earned Gold medals for scoring in the 95th percentile or above.  For scoring between the 85th and 94th percentiles, Lily Siegel, Elizabeth Kayzman, Zachary Glick, Madeleine Song, Michelle Buzharsky, Matan Dubnikov and Danielle Bash earned Silver medals.  For scoring from the 75th through 84th percentiles, Bronze medals were earned by Sharon Hong, Dustin Rosenfeld, Ravi Dhamija, Timothy Larsen and Jesslyn Magner.  Alysta Paneque and William Carbajal also earned Bronze medals in the Outside Experience and Bilingual categories respectively and finally 10 additional students earned Honorable Mention.

The three students who placed in the state were Zane Groh (3rd), Antonia Sames (6th) and Ji Wook (Joseph) Shin (7th).
